A unique experience in nature with a high fun factor – that’s the High-Altitude Promenade in Zell am See. Why? Because the family hiking trail combines pristine nature with stunning views, learning experiences and solving of puzzles! 

An adventure hike for families in Zell am See

The High-Altitude Promenade adventure trail is more than just a leisurely hike with stunning mountain views. A special feature are, for instance, the so-called “viscopes” – scenic view telescopes that show the names of the summits you’re looking at. In addition, a number of themed info boards along the way show interesting facts about the local flora and fauna. Various scenic view platforms and game stations ensure fun and entertainment for the whole family.

The route of the High-Altitude Promenade

Easy, fun, family-appropriate: The High-Altitude Promenade is perfect for families and fans of leisurely hikes. Starting on the Schmittenhöhe, you’ll follow the trail below the ridge for 2.5 kilometres and 1.5 hours. You’ll walk past the Hochzeller Alm and along the Salersbachköpfl until you eventually reach the Sonnkogel. The restaurant of the same name awaits hungry hikers with its traditional cuisine. Good to know: Even though the High-Altitude Promenade is suitable for families, sturdy footwear is still a prerequisite! Of course, you can also hike in the reverse direction – from the Sonnkogel to the Schmittenhöhe.

Schmidolin’s hiking puzzle booklet

Hiking is one thing – but solving tricky puzzles at the same time? Families who want to train body and mind in one go should bring along Schmidolin’s hiking puzzle booklet on their hike. Along the way, a number of exciting puzzles and exercises for all ages await! All children who can present the correct solution at the InfoCenter (Schmittenhöhebahn valley station) or the Sonnkogel Restaurant after completing the hike receive a little surprise. 

The best part: Upon handing in your solution card, you’ve also got the chance to win a family holiday in Zell am See! Schmidolin’s puzzle booklet is available at the Schmittenhöhebahn valley station, at the info office on the summit (July & August) & at the Sonnkogel Restaurant – for free.

The High-Altitude Promenade is only one of many attractions and adventures for families up on the Schmitten! The aforementioned Herb Trail and Schmidolin’s Baptism of Fire trail are perfect for exploring the resort with little hikers.
