Yes, the wearing of FFP2 masks for everyone from the age of 14 is obligatory. Mask & tube scarves are obligatory from 6 - 13 years.

In these areas it is compulsory to wear a FFP2 mask:
  • in enclosed rooms, lift stations, entrance/exit areas and throughout the journey with the lift (excluding t-bar lifts)
  • when using the WC facilities

If you have forgotten your FFP2 mask or mouth-nose-protector, we offer you the opportunity to purchase it at our stations for € 2.

No, to use the cable cars on the Schmittenhöhe no COVID test, vaccination or proof of a COVID infection is required. 

BUT: To visit one of our moutain restaurants, one of the following points is required (3-G-rule): 

  • Proof of a negative COVID-19 test result (PCR test not older than 72 hours or an antigen test not older than 24 hours or a self test with digital integration not older than 24 hours.)
  • Formal confirmation from a physician of COVID-19 recovery after an infection
  • Formal confirmation of quarantine completion subsequent to COVID-19 infection (please note the validity of 180 days)
  • Proof of vaccination (two vaccinations with an EMA approved vaccine)
  • Proof of neutralizing antibodies

No, in accordance with legal requirements from 1st July, 2021 there are no capacity restrictions on cable cars any more. However, you are welcome to use your own cable card if you wish. FFP2 mask or a MNP must always be worn in all cable cars.

If all lifts and cable cars in the ALPIN CARD regions are officially closed due to an epidemic or pandemic and / or if the customer is unable to use the service due to a travel warning or border closure, an aliquot reimbursement will be granted.

This applies to acent and/or descent, combination tickets, last minute tickets, boat cruises tickets (panorama cruises and lake crossings). (Excluded from this regulation: hike and swim ticket, summer-season ticket and annual tickets.)

Important information in advance: Because of their activity, lift and cable car companies are subject to regulations that affect public transport. The ordinances of the Austrian Federal Government are the basis for a number of measures to protect all guests and employees. For a good and safe coexistence, the following instructions currently apply:

  • wear a FFP2 mask (mask & tube scarves from the age of 6, FFP2 masks from the age of 14)
  • keep distance
  • general hygiene rules
  • follow the instructions of the employees
  • individual responsibility

In addition to the precautions and measures taken by the ALPIN CARD partners, we appeal to our visitors to take responsibility for mutual consideration and compliance with the safety and hygiene measures.

Due to the official requirements of the Austrian Federal Government and the positive findings from the last year, the Schmittenhöhebahn AG has developed an optimized COVID-19 package of measures with an increased focus on safety and health, in order to enable guests to enjoy wonderful days this summer!

  • Tested, vaccinated or recovered: Current Austrian law pertaining to COVID-19 requires us to solicit documentation from guests (from the age of 10) to ensure they present low epidemiological risk (i.e. they are either vaccinated, tested or recovered). Examples of valid documentation are as follows:
    • Proof of a negative COVID-19 test result (check test opportunities)
    • Formal confirmation from a physician of COVID-19 recovery after an infection
    • Formal confirmation of quarantine completion subsequent to COVID-19 infection (please note the validity of 180 days)
    • Proof of vaccination (two vaccinations with an EMA approved vaccine)
    • Proof of neutralizing antibodies

  • All guests must register if staying longer than 15 minutes: Due to current COVID-19 regulations in Austria, we are required to record your contact data whenever you visit one.
  • Reservations: In order to avoid waiting times and crowds, we recommend that you make a reservation for the seats in our restaurants and catering establishments in advance - by phone or via the reservation system of the respective establishment.
  • Digital menu / drink cards: In our service restaurants, the menu / drink cards can also be called up via QR code.
  • Cleaning: Our companies invest specifically in a large number of hygiene and cleaning measures. This applies, for example, to the cleaning or disinfection of tables / bar areas in the company's own catering establishments as well as handrails, door handles and sanitary facilities. Shortening the intervals between filter cleaning of the ventilation system also ensures additional protection and safety.

Yes, we regularly disinfect all cable car systems. Disinfection measures are also carried out regularly in elevator cabins, escalators, sanitary facilities, depots and first aid rooms. Soap and disinfectant dispensers for regular hand hygiene are available in sufficient quantities.

Our gondolas are regularly cleaned by a 3D disinfection using Biotech3D-ultrasound. Here you can find detailed information about this special disinfection.

  • The waiting areas for the cable cars are organized in such a way that groups of people standing close together are avoided. In order to avoid queues at the cash desks, tickets can be purchased in advance via the new online shop meinskipass.at and from ticket machines with a pick-up function.
  • Frequency cams in the valley stations provide an additional overview of the current flow of visitors.
  • Through the utilization of the car parks you can check out the current occupancy level of the car parks.
  • At the cable cars you will find sufficient notes and information on our current COVID-19 guidelines via screens and displays. In addition, our trained staff is available to you as a contact (own COVID team) on site.
  • The guests are continuously provided with the latest information via loudspeaker announcements throughout the valley stations and cable cars.
  • Our cable cars are regularly cleaned by a 3D disinfection using Biotech3D-ultrasound. Here you can find detailed information about this special disinfection.
  • Due to the recommended safety measures, waiting times can be expected, especially on busy days (weekends and holidays). We ask for your patience and understanding in this regard and recommend that you start your day as early as possible during these peak times.

Yes, regardless of the current legal requirements, our queuing areas are organized in such a way that closely related groups of people are avoided as far as possible. Legally prescribed minimum distances are marked in the access areas and where possible by floor markings and barriers.

Yes, all of our employees are tested regularly for COVID-19 in our C-19 CHECK BOX on site. Partially our employees are already vaccinated. Before the start of work, all employees are taken daily to measure their body temperature.

What we do for you!

  • Signposts and information points: These point out our code of conduct at the cable cars and in the entire area of the Schmittenhöhe.
  • FFP2 mask: The wearing of a FFP2 mask is obligatory in the the appropriately marked areas (see section FFP2 mask).
  • Organized queuing areas: We will organise the queuing areas independently of the current legal requirements in such a way that clusters of people are avoided as much as possible.
  • Hand hygiene: We have installed sufficient hand disinfection facilities in the lift stations.
  • Disinfection measures: We disinfect all cable car cabins on a regular basis. Disinfection measures are also carried out regularly in elevator cabins, escalators, sanitary facilities, depots and first aid rooms.  Furthermore, our cable cars are regularly cleaned by a 3D disinfection using Biotech3D-ultrasound. Here you can find detailed information about this special disinfection.
  • None of our trains run for more than 12 minutes.
    For information: There is only a risk of infection if you stay in closed rooms for a longer period and if the specified minimum distance to other people is not reached. It is up to you to decide whether you want to enter a cabin that already has people.
  • COVID-19 test: Employees are tested for COVID-19 regularly in our C-19 check box on site or are already partially vaccinated.
  • Mask and temperature measurement: Employees who come into contact with guests and there a no sufficient protective measures, are instructed to wear a FFP2 mask. Before starting work, all employees are measured daily for their body temperature.

Please keep sufficient distance to strangers.

If possible, please ventilate the lift during your journey.

 Please observe the general rules of hygiene and wash your hands regularly. Disinfectant dispensers are available in the indoor area of the lift stations.

 Please do not leave your used protective masks or handkerchiefs in the lifts but dispose of them properly. In the lift station areas, there are waste bins available.

 Please follow the recommendations for conduct and the instructions of our employees
 and especially observe the applicable hygiene regulations.

 When possible, make non-cash payments or use the online ticket shop.

Please demonstrate personal responsibility and protect your health as well as the health of your fellow human beings.

If you have symptoms that could indicate a possible COVID-19 infection (fever, cough, sore throat, loss of taste/smell, ...), please stay in your accommodation and contact the reception of your accommodation or a doctor immediately.
