The three-pillar model is a construct that regulates how sustainability should be implemented in the areas of economy, ecology and social issues. Schmittenhöhebahn AG regularly works on improvements in each area:

  • The summer management of the meadows ensures the preservation of biodiversity on the Schmitten.
  • Further training and gender equality play a central role.
  • Regular participation in non-profit projects contributes to the continued existence of natural resources on and around Zell’s landmark mountain.

Working life at Schmittenhöhebahn AG

In 2019, 14 state-of-the-art residential units were built for employees of Schmittenhöhebahn AG, which are available for a small fee. This offer is particularly important for the recruitment of seasonal workers.

To ensure a good flow of information, an internal communication tool was introduced in autumn 2019. In the Schmitten Inside App, all employees receive information on current topics – quickly and no matter where they are.

Training and further education opportunities

Targeted training and further education strengthen the competencies of our employees and thus the company’s productivity and performance. Schmittenhöhebahn AG offers its members of staff the opportunity to expand their knowledge on the following topics:

  • machine operator courses especially for cable car employees
  • seminars for operations managers
  • training courses for fire prevention officers 
  • various specialist training courses and further training courses offered by external companies
  • the “Schmitten-Serviceschmiede” project to improve service orientation and quality

In-house training offer: the Schmitten Academy

Whether it’s for managers or electrical engineers: The cable car company offers a comprehensive range of courses as part of the Schmitten Academy.

The academy aims to promote both personal and professional training for all employees in the following areas:

  • Technical: especially for employees who have not completed an apprenticeship as a cable car or electrical technician
  • Management level: for people who are in a managerial position and want to optimally respond to the needs of their employees
  • Customer service orientation: to raise awareness and strengthen employee loyalty

The individual modules are designed to consolidate knowledge in the respective subject area.

Sustainable partnerships at Schmittenhöhebahn AG

Just like its long-term employees, Schmittenhöhebahn AG also values lasting relationships with regional partners such as construction companies, printers, photographers or agencies.

For example, the renovation of the Panorama Restaurant was carried out by a conglomerate of local companies – including Herzog Bau GmbH from Zell am See.

Schmitten tip

A visit to the Panorama Restaurant is always well worthwhile! On the three sundecks of the restaurant, you can enjoy unique views of more than thirty 3,000-metre peaks while savouring delicious regional delicacies.
