It’s all about innovation on the Schmitten

It’s only been a few years since section II of the zellamseeXpress was put into operation. Along with it came a number of innovations. Among them, wider and longer cable cars and, thus, more room as well as free WiFi in every cable car of the zellamseeXpress. Under the credo of “Welcome to First Class”, winter guests are offered a truly exceptional mountain experience.

But that’s not all: In the Jukeboxx cable cars, a world first awaits winter sports fans! Just switch on the WiFi on your smartphone and it automatically connects with the Jukeboxx app. Then there’s only one thing left to do: Press play and sway up the mountain accompanied by your favourite song!

Good to know: Alongside technical innovations, environmental protection is a topic of great importance up on the Schmitten. The cable car company has a pronounced focus on sustainability, including the conservation of resources and energy-efficient working practices. Some of the environmentally-friendly technologies used are heat recovery systems and photo-voltaic facilities as well as resource-sparing artificial snowmaking. As the only one of its kind in the world, the cable car company is even certified based on EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) standards.

zellamseeXpress

Upon initial operation of the zellamseeXpress, the old ski descent down into the Glemmtal valley was reopened. Section II of the aerial tram with a capacity of 10 people per cable car has taken skiers and snowboarders from the middle station (the so-called Winkelstation) above Viehhofen to the mountain station on the Salersbachköpfl at 1,920 metres above sea level ever since. Section I takes passengers from the Winkelstation to Viehhofen. It’s a direct connection from the Schmitten to the Glemmtal valley and started operating in December 2019. A free ski shuttle (every 10 minutes) enables access to Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang-Fieberbrunn.
