As of May 2025, it’s official: Isabella Zeinzinger is the newest and currently only female captain on Lake Zell. After completing her training and passing her final exam, she now steers MS Großglockner, bringing a fresh perspective and new energy to the Zell am See shipping team.
The career path to becoming a captain
Isabella's journey to the helm began in 2023 as a cashier aboard the Lake Zell shipping fleet. But it didn’t take long for her true ambition to emerge. Just one season later, it was clear: She wanted to steer the ship herself. Following intensive hands-on training on the water and a demanding theoretical and practical exam, Isabella now proudly serves as captain of MS Großglockner, among other vessels.
But being a captain involves more than just steering. From maintenance duties to managing unexpected weather changes and navigating busy lake traffic: Isabella now handles it all with calm, confidence and a steady hand – aboard what she considers her favourite ship.
