Areit 1400 exhibition

“Transportation in the past and in the future”

You’re looking for a varied bad-weather activity on the Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See? How about the Areit 1400 exposition? Under the title of “Transportation in the past and in the future”, you can take a closer look at the travel and leisure behaviour of yesterday, today and tomorrow. A special experience for the whole family – especially on days when the weather isn’t so great.

Traveling back in time at 1,400 metres above sea level

At areitXpress mountain station, the Areit 1400 exhibition takes eager-minded visitors on a journey back in time surrounding the topic of travel. History-charged vintage cars, historic mopeds and a regional collection of skis of the last 100 years: The exhibition’s varied mix promises an unforgettable experience in a unique atmosphere. The state-of-the-art Gamecorner bridges the gap between the past and the present – and even the future.

Gamecorner as an exhibition highlight for kids

For visitors, whether big or small, high-quality gaming machines are available in the Gamecorner. In addition to a pinball machine, a pool table and some other highlights await visitors.

Vintage car exhibition on the Schmitten

What do movie star Herbie, possibly the world’s most famous beetle, and a Porsche 356B have in common? Both of them can be admired in an exceptional environment at the Areit 1400 exhibition. Add to that lots of other vintage cars from Vötters Vintage Car Museum in Kaprun as well as historic mopeds from the Zell am See collection of Franz Schmalzl.

Ready for a journey back to the 1960s and 1970s? Every exhibition piece shows how people travelled to their holiday destination back in the day – and all that at a mountain station located at 1,400 metres above sea level!

“90 years of tradition & innovation” as an interesting alternative

In 2017, the Schmitten celebrated its 90th birthday – nine decades celebrated with the anniversary exhibition “90 years of tradition & innovation”. Besides the mountain station of areitXpress, there’s another location that lets you go on a journey back in time. At the mountain station of Areitbahn II at 2,000 metres above sea level, everything revolves around the history of Salzburg’s first cable car. .
