Speaking of the skiing and hiking area

You can wonderfully combine a visit to the summit exhibition in Zell am See with a hike in fair weather or snow sports during the winter season.

Pictures of the past

With the Schmittenhöhebahn, the very first cable car in the SalzburgerLand region commenced operation in 1927. Presently, boasting 28 cable cars and lifts, Zell’s landmark mountain stands as a premier alpine destination for both winter sports enthusiasts and summer visitors. Whether it’s technological advancements or the evolution of tourism: The anniversary exhibition impressively illustrates the factors responsible for the sustained success of the past decades.

Among the highlights is a cinematic presentation of the company’s beginnings, featuring historical footage.

90 years of the Schmitten: tradition shapes the present day

Equally captivating as the numerous historical photographs are the two recreated gondolas, representing the first and sixth (latest) generations of Schmitten cable cars, awaiting visitors at the exhibition. These models offer a unique opportunity for visitors to comprehend the progress that has been made leading up to the present day. They vividly illustrate notable shifts in priorities, moving from the primary focus on passenger transportation to a multifaceted approach that encompasses aspects such as transport capacity, efficiency, sustainability, entertainment, comfort, and the overall experience.

Looking at the modern terrain model, which depicts the daily occurrences on the mountain, you’ll find yourself in the here and now again. Through the miniature cable cars and piste equipment, visitors of all ages can get a glimpse into the day-to-day activities and ongoing technical operations conducted by the dedicated teams at Schmittenhöhebahn AG.
