Construction project Sonnkogel
The Schmittenhöhebahn AG manages a total of 28 cable cars and lifts. In order to guarantee the legal requirements on the one hand, but also to meet our concept of improving comfort and increasing safety, the "Sonnkogelbahn" (3-seat chairlift), which has existed since 1984, is being replaced by a combination lift (6-seater chairs or 8-seater gondolas) with the latest technology.
The use oft the combined lift is changed seasonally - in summer the cabins provide comfort for hikers and families. In winter, thanks to the 6-seater chairs with seat heating, weather protection cover and automatically lockable safety bars, you can quickly get back to the top without any annoying ski unbuckling.
The new Sonnkogel lift will open in winter 2023/24.
Lower station & top station
The existing building of the lower station will be replaced by a new station.
The top station can no longer be integrated into the building due to lack of space and will therefore be relocated. The existing station building is going to be used to adapt the existing restaurant. The Sonnkogel Restaurant is connected under ground with the top station of the Sonnkogel cable car, at ground level you can reach the service restaurant directly from the platform.
