Active holidays in Salzburger Land

Experience the world of Schmitten– in summer and winter

Zell’s “local mountain”, the Schmittenhöhe, is right in the heart of the holiday region Zell am See-Kaprun and offers – above and beyond powder snow in wintertime and adventure hikes in summer – a bevy of other pleasures. The incomparable 360-degree panorama from the summit viewing more than 30 three-thousand meter high peaks is eye-popping. At the foot, Lake Zell spreads out like a jeweled carpet, inviting one and all to come for a swim, to linger, to relax. New perspectives of the town Zell am See and the surrounding mountain landscapes open wide to everyone on a panorama shipping cruise on one of our boats. On the Schmitten, different events take place all year round. If you are interested in sports events or cultural events, Schmitten is the right place for you.

Winter for the whole family

Along a total of 77 kilometers of ski runs, anyone and everyone can be happy on the Schmitten. The repertoire extends from numerous children and family areas, such as the new Kids Slope, the Funslope XXL, the Dragon Park and the Snowpark all the way to the longest black-colour descent in the province of Salzburg – the “Trass” – and even includes skiing after sundown on the Schmitten Nightslope and a free-of-charge winter hiking programme for all those who adore sunshine.

Our top highlight for winter 2016/17 was the ZellamseeXpress, a brand new 10-seater cabin cablecar that permits winter guests to peek well beyond the borders into Glemm Valley.

Furthermore, on the Schmitten in Zell am See even art lovers and culinary connoisseurs are attracted with stimulating treats. Our tip: every Sunday in selected mountain huts, enjoy the Pinzga Tag party, where regional dishes and traditional delicacies are prepared and served.

Summer for the whole family

Experience anew, discover anew, let your soul roam free – summertime on the Schmitten is a kaleidoscope of colours. Adventure and action are a guarantee on the Adventure Hiking Trail “Schmidolin’s Baptism of Fire” and at the E-Motocross Park near the Areitbahn mountain terminal. You’ll have to put on your thinking cap and exercise a bit of dexterity on the High Altitude Promenade and the disc golf course. For a mountain snack and refreshing beverages, you are cordially invited to a stopover at any of the numerous huts, complete with sunny lounging terraces where you can gaze down over Lake Zell.

How about going for a hike in Austria’s largest open-air art gallery? In the programme called Art on the Mountain, Schmitten presents larger-than-life objects and sculptures out in nature. Find out more about our free-of-charge guided hikes.
