Play discgolf at Schmitten in Zell am See

Frisbee + Golf = Discgolf
Hiking, playing and enjoying - the highlight on Zell’s home mountain for all fans of the Schmitten. Just like with golf, you make your play from a starting zone. Instead of a golf ball, a frisbee disc glides through the air; instead of a hole, it lands in a catch-basket. The objective is to "sink" your frisbee with as few tosses as possible. So much for the distinctions. Both sports require patience, concentration and steadiness, those are the sporting virtues they have in common.

18-hole downhill course
The “golf links” on the Schmitten are laid out as an 18-hole downhill course. You tee off at 1,850 meters altitude at the mountain terminal of the Sonnkogelbahn. Then you work your way hole by hole down to the Sonnenalm at 1,400 meters. Along the way, no doubt about it, there is lots of antsy glee and tingly excitement, together with spectacular views of Lake Zell and the surrounding galaxy of mountain peaks.

Beginning is the easy part
For beginners there are three easy baskets to toss into. You stand at the Easy Line of the course, where you can substitute them with "slam-dunks” for the more difficult pro-line baskets (no. 2, 3, 4).
With a valid cable car ticket, the course is open to use free-of-charge. A frisbee can be borrowed for a deposit of €10.- each at the InfoCenter in the Schmittenhöhebahn valley station or at the mountain station of Sonnkogelbahn.

Current record holder on the course is Stefan Bachleitner (Sumodrivers Weng) who boasts an impressive score of 49 tosses.
