Fancy fresh mountain air, sweeping views and the first taste of summer in the Alps? The Schmittenhöhe in Zell am See kicks off its summer season on 18 May 2026. To get you in the mood, we’ve put together the most important information and highlights.
Summer operations of the mountain cableways
Plan ahead to enjoy a more relaxed trip: The first mountain cableways on the Schmittenhöhe begin operations at the start of the summer season in mid-May. Additional lifts will open as the season progresses.
- Schmittenhöhebahn: 18 May to 4 October, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm; 5 October to 1 November, 9.00 am - 4.00 pm
- Sonnenalmbahn: expected 23 May to 4 October, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm; 5 October to 1 November, 9.00 am - 4.00 pm
- Sonnkogelbahn: expected 23 May to 4 October, 9.15 am - 4.45; 5 October to 1 November, 9.15 am - 3.45 pm
- areitXpress: 23 May to 13 September, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm
- trassXpress: 18 June to 13 September, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm
- cityXpress: 20 June to 13 September, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm
- zellamseeXpress: 9 July to 6 September, Thursdays to Sundays, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm
